Export or delete your data

Your plant's data is yours. You can take it out at any time, on any plan. Each export only ever contains your own plant's rows.

Download the history as CSV

Anyone on the team can do this.

  1. Open Settings → Data and API.
  2. Under Export to CSV, pick From and To dates and, if you want one machine, the Machine.
  3. Click Download CSV.

The file has every status change, downtime reason and note in that range, one per line, and opens in Excel. Each line has the time in your plant's time zone and in UTC, the machine and its area, the status, the reason code and label, the note, where it came from (operator, ping or system) and the operator's name if they gave one.

You can export up to 366 days at a time, and one file holds at most 100,000 lines. For a longer stretch or a busy plant, download shorter ranges one after another.

The CSV does not include cycle counts, metrics or parts logged by hand. Use the read API for those.

Download your machine list

Open Settings → Import and export and click export your machines (export the machines if you are not an owner or admin). You get a CSV of your active machines with their name, area, ideal and target rates and shift schedule. Owners and admins can change the file and import it back; see Areas, import and export.

Read everything with the API

On Pro, the read API returns machines, events, cycle counts and metrics, parts logged by hand, alerts, shift schedules and OEE as JSON. Use it to copy your data into your own database on a schedule.

To get each change as it happens instead, add a webhook.

How long history is kept

Your plan sets how many days of history reports and the API cover: 7 days on Free and 90 days on Pro when this was written. The pricing page has the current numbers, and Export to CSV shows yours.

History older than your plan's window plus 30 days may be deleted: status changes, downtime reasons and notes, cycle counts and metrics, parts logged by hand and closed alerts. On Free that is history older than about 37 days. The 30 extra days mean that if your plant moves back to Free by mistake, upgrading within a month brings your history back. We run this cleanup on our side and decide when it runs; you can't change it for your plant.

These are kept whatever their age:

  • each machine's latest status, so the board and reports know where it stands
  • alerts that are still open

To keep a full record, export the CSV or copy data through the API before it ages out.

Stop collecting data for a machine

Owners and admins can archive a machine from its own page: click Archive this machine. Pings and QR logs stop, it leaves the board, and it is no longer billed. Its history stays, and you can restore it later. Archived machines are listed under Settings → Plant.

To stop data reaching What Started from outside:

Delete machines, your plant or your account

You can't delete machines, history, a plant or an account in the app. Archiving is the closest you can do yourself.

To have something deleted for good, such as one machine's history, the whole plant or your sign-in account, write to us. Export what you want to keep first; deleted data can't be brought back.
