Account

Team and roles

Everyone who signs in to What Started belongs to one plant and has one role. Operators who log stops at a QR sticker don't need an account at all; see Print a QR sticker.

Roles

Role Can
Owner Everything an admin can, and make, change or remove other owners
Admin Set up machines, stickers, ping tokens, reasons, shifts and areas; invite and remove people; manage API keys, webhooks and billing
Member See the board, machines, reports and settings; log downtime; download CSV exports
Operator Log downtime on the shop floor

Owners and admins also get the plant's alert emails. Members and operators do not.

The person who creates the plant is its first owner. A plant always keeps at least one owner.

Invite someone

Owners and admins can invite people.

  1. Open Settings → Team.
  2. Under Invite someone, enter their Email and pick a Role: Admin, Member or Operator.
  3. Click Send invite.

They get an email with a link. The link works for 7 days, and they have to join with the address you invited: they click Create an account or I have an account and sign in with that email.

If the email can't be sent, What Started shows you the link so you can send it yourself.

To make someone an owner, invite them as an admin or member, then change their role once they have joined.

Waiting to join

Open invitations are listed under Waiting to join, with the date the link stops working. Click Withdraw to cancel one. Inviting the same address again replaces the old link with a new one.

If a link has expired or was withdrawn, the person sees "This invitation is not valid". Send them a new invite.

One plant per account

An account can belong to one plant. If the person you invite already belongs to another plant, they can't join yours with that account. Invite another email address of theirs instead.

Change a role

  1. Open Settings → Team.
  2. Pick the new role next to the person's name. It saves straight away.

Admins can change anyone except owners. Only an owner can make someone an owner or change another owner's role. You can't change your own role; ask another owner or admin.

Remove someone

Click Remove next to the person's name under Settings → Team. They lose access to the plant at once. What they logged stays in the machine history.

Admins can remove anyone except owners; only an owner can remove another owner. The last owner can't be removed.

There is no button to leave a plant yourself. Ask an owner or admin to remove you.
